InstallationThe NITESTAR's slim-line design makes it easy to find a location in you vehicle to mount the unit. The NITESTAR can be mounted using the bracket that is provided or simply velcro the unit to the dashboard. The specially designed proximity sensors and electronic interfaces fit any vehicle on the road today. With complete, fully illustrated instructions and a manufacturer's service department capable of answering your questions over the phone, very little mechanical knowledge is necessary to install a NITESTAR. The NITESTAR features automatic calibration when the vehicle is started up to ensure the process of accurate highway measuring. Instrument Sales does not offer installation services.

Determine pass and no-pass zones.
Range Tracking SystemThe Range Tracker system is an invaluable, two-vehicle method for determination of highway no-passing zones. The system requires a lead vehicle with a specially modified NITESTAR DMI, 174 MHz RF modem, telemetry and a trailing vehicle with a NITESTAR DMI, modem and an event logging laptop computer. The lead vehicle continuously transmits its road travel distance to the trailing vehicle. The trailing vehicle computes its own road travel distance and the difference between those two values is the separation distance between the two vehicles.
The in and out visibility of a target on the leading vehicle, monitored from the trailing vehicle, is recorded to determine if a no passing zone is required. The driver in the trailing vehicle can adjust the vehicle separation by controlling his speed. In addition, data may be entered pertaining to physical events such as intersections, school zones, bridges, comments, etc. so that further analysis allows accurate establishing of no-passing zones or paint striping plans.

Optional Printer Accessory DPU-411
The DPU-411 is a battery powered data printer that can be used in a vehicle simply by plugging it into the NITESTAR 60 Distance Measuring Instrument. The ability to obtain a hard copy printout of data is invaluable in many applications. Each printout consists of a header and data pertaining to your survey such as distance, interval distance, speed, time and a two digit code to identify events. There is also a 20 item plain language library of events which can be custom programmed to suit your application. For time-speed-delay studies, the printout consists of distance, elapsed time and average speed between events. For general inventory applications, data can be stored in the NITESTAR's memory, then transferred to the DPU-411 or each event can be printed immediately.
