Series - Technical Tips Automatic levels are affordable and easy to use, but they still are precision instruments. One of the most useful tools for the user in the field is to know how to check their level by performing a Peg Test. This test checks the line of sight and confirms that the level is reading true. |
||
![]() 1) Set the instrument at a point halfway between points A and B. Take readings a1 and b1. |
![]() 2) Set the instrument at a point 2m from point A. Take readings a2 and b2. |
3) Calculate b2= a2 - (a1 - b2) If b2 = b2 , the horizontal cross- line is normal and no adjustment is necessary. |
If the instrument does not read true, consult the manual for instructions on adjusting the instrument.
